For a long while I used AmiTCP with Samba. The main
reason for this is that I could not get Samba to work reliably with Miami (back then the
Samba docs did not mention Miami) . However things are different now and I would never go
back to AmiTCP.
Most of my initial success when installing Samba with AmiTCP was due to this excellent tutorial by John Crookshank. Please note that this
tutorial is a getting a little old now. Even so the basics of installation have not
changed that much. The main comment I would make is that 'nmbd' can now be run as a daemon
(not that I ever did this with AmiTCP) rather than from inetd - something which is
recommended in the current Samba docs.
I have no interest in supporting AmiTCP, but I would suggest to those of you who still use
it to read both my Miami and Genesis guides. The information in these combined with that
in John Crookshank's guide should put you in the right direction. If you really get stuck,
then mail me :)
